The cost of PAT testing depends on more than simply the number of appliances. A small office with easy access is very different from a multi-floor site, a property portfolio or an operational warehouse where equipment is spread across different areas.

What affects PAT testing cost?

• Number of appliances: higher volumes can reduce the average cost per item because setup and travel are spread across more tests.
• Site layout: several floors, buildings or separate areas can increase the time needed to locate and test equipment.
• Access: restricted rooms, occupied accommodation or equipment that cannot be easily isolated can affect the testing programme.
• Working hours: evenings, weekends or phased access may change how the job is scheduled.
• Location and travel: single local sites and nationwide multi-site programmes are priced differently.
• Reporting requirements: asset-level records, site separation and portfolio reporting can affect administration time.

Should you choose the cheapest quote?

Price matters, but it should not be the only consideration. Testing should be carried out competently, with suitable equipment and clear results. A very low headline price is not useful if the contractor cannot provide reliable records, identify failures properly or work around your site.

What information helps us quote accurately?

When requesting a quote, it helps to provide:

• Site address or addresses
• Approximate number of appliances
• Type of premises
• Any access restrictions
• Preferred working hours
• Whether the work is single-site or multi-site

Different sectors have different requirements

A school may prefer holiday testing, while a hotel may need floor-by-floor access and a warehouse may need work planned around shifts. Explore our PAT testing by sector pages for examples.
